Giants kicker Greg Joseph (oblique) out Sunday, likely to be replaced by Jude McAtamney

The New York Giants will be on their third kicker of the season, in just nine games, when they host the Commanders on Sunday.

Greg Joseph, who has gone 13-for-16 on field goals this year while Graham Gano has been on IR, is out for Sunday’s game with an oblique injury after he was a surprise DNP in Friday’s walk-through.

The irony, of course, is that the Giants’ opponent is Washington, who won their first matchup in Week 2 21-18 thanks to seven field goals from their kicker, Austin Seibert – while the Giants had no kicking game after an already-compromised Gano was lost after injuring his leg on the opening kickoff.

Punter Jamie Gillan attempted an extra point on the Giants’ first score of that game, missing badly, and the team went for two on each of their subsequent two scores – and also unsuccessfully went for it on 4th-and-4 from the Commanders’ 22 with just over two minutes left instead of attempting a field goal that could’ve given them a 21-18 lead.

Barring a late signing, the Giants will likely elevate former Rutgers kicker Jude McAtamney from the practice squad to kick on Sunday.

The team is also on a backup punter, as Matt Haack will remain in that spot as Gillan misses his fourth straight game with a hamstring injury.
