The Giants left Monday night's blowout loss to the Rams believing they had dodged a bullet when it came to Jaxson Dart's injured knee.
Instead, they could be facing the worst-case scenario.
Multiple reports now indicate that further testing on Dart's knee revealed a more severe injury than initial testing showed on Monday, and the Giants quarterback could now be facing season-ending surgery.
"Evaluations are ongoing. We haven't got any final decisions yet," Harbaugh told reporters on Tuesday. "We've learned a lot more. I wouldn't want to share too much until decisions get made."
Dart left Monday's game after just seven plays, taking a heavy hit in the backfield that seemingly sent his knee bending in an unnatural direction. He limped off the field under his own power and was taken to the locker room before returning in street clothes. Harbaugh confirmed Tuesday that Dart lobbied to get back into the game, but the Giants shut it down.
Losing Dart for the year would obviously be a critical blow for a Giants offense that looked very efficient in Week 1, when Dart threw for three touchdowns and no interceptions in a convincing win over the Cowboys. Jameis Winston replaced Dart on Monday and struggled mightily. He will now be relied upon to keep Big Blue on track towards its heightened goals under Harbaugh.
