Sean Payton made headlines on Thursday when he ripped Nathaniel Hackett and last year’s Broncos performance, while also hinting that the Jets could be in for a similar fate this season amid all the hype around them and the flashy additions they made this offseason, highlighted by Aaron Rodgers.
Boomer made it clear on Friday that he felt Payton’s comments, particularly towards Hackett and the Jets, were unfair.
“That’s an inaccurate statement,” Boomer said. “That is a 100 percent inaccurate statement. Richie Kotite went 4-32, and he got replaced by the mentor for one Sean Payton, and that would be Bill Parcells. I don’t ever remember Bill Parcells going after Richie Kotite.”
Now, Boomer can only hope the Jets are using Payton’s comments as the ultimate bulletin board material for the duration of the season, and especially when they meet Payton’s Broncos in October.
“I would circle that. If I were Rob Saleh, I would walk in there today and have the Broncos written on the board,” Boomer said. “I wouldn’t just use that against the Broncos and Sean Payton. I would use that against the entire NFL. ‘This is what the league thinks of us.’
“The Jets already had a good team. They just needed a quarterback, and then they bring in some receivers who he’s comfortable with. That’s it!”
