Craig rips Jets for cancelling week of mandatory minicamp: 'Soft, ridiculous thing to do'

The Jets will be wrapping up their mandatory minicamp a week early, as head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that next week’s offseason program has been cancelled in light of the team’s preseason starting early this year due to their participation in the Hall of Fame Game.

Suffice to say Craig didn’t care for the decision.

“The Jets haven’t made the playoffs in a decade…this team hasn’t earned the right to end practice a week early,” Craig said. “This team, collectively, hasn’t earned the right to say, ‘We’ve done such a good job thus far, we’re sending everybody home.’

“It is a problem. The Jets are making a mistake. I’m probably overreacting to it to a degree, but what has the Jets franchise done to look in the mirror and go, ‘We have done so good, we’re giving everybody a week off.’ That’s a bad move, and it sends a bad message. How can more practice possibly be a bad thing? It’s a soft, soft, ridiculous thing to do.”

Evan didn’t share that frustration, noting that it helps prevent injury, and that there are other ways for the team to build chemistry until reconvening for training camp this summer. But Craig wasn’t hearing it, and was disgusted when he saw the news.

“I’m trying to get to a Super Bowl for the first time in my lifetime,” Craig said. “It is a bad message to the fans, that we’ve been so good in OTAs, the guys deserve a week off of camps and mandatory practices. Name another team that does it. That’s right, there aren’t any, because nobody does it.

“I wanted to vomit. It’s the way the kids are these days. God forbid you ask them to work too much.”
