We’ve heard rumors of infighting between Jets head coach Adam Gase and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

And, moments after the Jets’ crushing 31-28 loss to the Raiders on Sunday, Boomer Esiason said on CBS that Gang Green’s defensive play call – blitz eight, play Cover 0 man – on Derek Carr’s game-winning 46-yard touchdown pass to Henry Ruggs with five seconds left “looked like they drew it up to lose.”

Now, add Jets safety Marcus Maye to that mix, as he said the following about the call in his postgame press conference:

“That situation, we could have been in a better call. A lot of emotions in the locker room right now,” Maye said. “It’s tough…we fought hard to put ourselves in a position to win. The call came in, we played the call that the coaches called. We have to execute, but you have to help us out at the same time.”

Maye also added that “I’m not criticizing anyone, but different situations could have played out better.”

Per NFL Next Gen Stats, the Jets were the first team this season to send eight or more pass rushers on a play in the last 30 seconds of a game this season. That decision left rookie Lamar Jackson one-on-one with Ruggs, who beat him for the game-winning score.

“In zero coverage, I got my man…I fell for the double move, said Jackson. “(Covering Ruggs one-on-one) is tough, but I won’t let that play define me. I know what I can do. I can only get better from here. It’s not going to happen next time.”

Jackson also added this, per frequent WFAN guest Connor Hughes:

Per Hughes, linebacker Jordan Jenkins and running back Ty Johnson would only say “it hurts” about the loss, and Sam Darnold, whose two TD passes were his first since Week 3 (and nearly doubled his season total), said “we should have won” and Williams’ call “is what it is.”

Adam Gase’s response?

“We were trying to create pressure, because they hadn’t dealt well with it all game,” the head coach said. “Our guys work way too hard to go through that.”
