While Robert Saleh left the door open for Denzel Mims to remain with the Jets when speaking to reporters on Friday, a recent Gang Green trade partner is reportedly interested in the wide receiver.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers “have called” about a trade for Mims, who requested a trade via his agent on Wednesday. Carolina head coach Matt Rhule has plenty of experience with Mims, who was a wide receiver at Baylor when Rhule was head coach of the Bears.

The Jets and Panthers connected on a trade for Sam Darnold last offseason, and while a trade for Mims is certainly a possibility after Wednesday’s request, Saleh is holding out hope that the relationship can still be mended, though he would like to see him make more strides on special teams.

“Talked to Denzel,” Saleh said. “It’s the business part of it. it was a really good conversation this morning, and we’re going about it business as usual.

“It’s not over. I’m not gonna say it’s over with…I do think Denzel has done a great job. I’m standing by it…it’s just a matter of him finding his niche and finding his role.”
