Mike White: Aaron Rodgers could 'definitely' handle playing in New York

One might think it would be awkward to ask a quarterback who possibly just finished playing for a team about how current potential target could fare in that team’s city.

But in the current NFL landscape, there’s maybe no one better equipped to be that former than Mike White, who enters free agency in a couple weeks fresh off two years of flux with the Jets.

So, when he appeared on The Joe Rose Show in Miami Friday, White was asked about the rumors about Aaron Rodgers being a Jets target, and the notion that Rodgers might not be cut out for New York.

This is what our own Tiki Barber had to say about it last month, when Rodgers was in the news for calling out some NFL insiders:

"If (Rodgers) is that sensitive that he gets upset that people, reporters, opinion-makers, influencers, whoever, want to talk about him, he is going to struggle in New York. And I don't know if it's the right fit for him. I don't know if I want him in New York if this is going to be his reaction to things that don't matter."

White, though, believes Rodgers can handle the scrutiny that would come with a move to Gang Green.

“Definitely (a tough place to play); it’s a passionate fan base that wants to win; when you’re playing well, they’re the best fans in the world, and when you’re not, they’ll let you hear about it,” White told Rose. “But Aaron Rodgers has plenty of experience with dealing with the media, and I’m sure he’ll be fine and hell know how to handle (New York).”

So, too, is the Packers’ fan base, and even though Green Bay isn’t New York, Rodgers has been one of the most visible players in the league for over a decade – so it would be interesting to see A-Rod in Florham Park, and see which former New York player was actually right.
