Kevin Durant knows Jerry West well, winning a title with the former Lakers legend when West was an executive with the Warriors during Durant’s tenure.
So Durant will make sure he gives West some playful trash talk now that he passed him on the NBA’s all-time scoring list after dropping a game-high 37 points in Monday night’s win over the Jazz.
“Good to see him back around the game, but it’s even better to pass him,” Durant said. “Next time I see him, I’m gonna give him a little s--t about it. it’s great to be amongst the all-time great players in this league.”
Durant, now 22nd in league history in career points with 25,193, is now quickly approaching Reggie Miller next, but passing West was particularly meaningful, leapfrogging The Logo as Durant continues his rise as one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.
“Winning a championship with Jerry and having conversations with him, just knowing the history of who he is. He helped kick-start the NBA,” Durant said. “It's a honor. He's just a legend in the game. A legend in our sport. Almost like the godfather of our sport.”
