The Yankees struck out another 13 times in Thursday night’s loss after fanning 17 times against Justin Verlander and company in a game one defeat.
The offense continues to be an issue as it has been for much of the playoffs, and many times in previous postseason contests in Houston, and the Yanks now face a 2-0 hole heading back to the Bronx.
The Yankee offense will have to wake up if they have any hope of getting back in the series, and to do that, a lot will have to change, particularly generating more contact, as the team’s swing and miss percentage has nearly doubled in this series compared to the regular season, and the offense as a whole is hitting just .138 with the 30 strikeouts in this series.
The Yanks also managed just four hits in game two, the ninth straight game dating back to the postseason that they managed six hits or less, which is the longest streak in franchise history, according to ESPN Stats and Info.
Katie Sharp of Stathead also adds that the Bombers’ 30 strikeouts and less than 10 hits over the first two games of this series makes them just the second team in MLB playoff history to log those totals over a two-game span.
All of those narratives will have to change as the series shifts back to the Bronx.
