Author and Red Sox fan Stephen King roasts Yankees with 'memo' to Rob Manfred

Stephen King is the mastermind behind some of the greatest works of horror in literary history, including "The Shining," "It," and the book that I'm currently working on, "The Stand." It was written in 1978 and focuses on a pandemic that nearly wipes out humanity... but that's a coincidence to unpack for another day.

As it turns out, Stephen King is also a pretty big Red Sox fan and enjoyed what he saw this past weekend. You'd be hard-pressed to find a Boston fan that didn't like what he/she saw in the Sox' three-game sweep of the division rival Yankees, a series in which they scored 18 runs while allowing just seven from the up-and-down Yanks. In fact, King liked what he saw so much — the horror in Yankees fans' eyes as they watched their team get destroyed, a horror only matched by Pennywise the Dancing Clown's victims — that he dropped a little note to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred with a simple request.

One thing I have to point out: I can't get past "Steve" King. That sounds so casual for someone who produces gory and traumatizing epics about ghosts, zombies and everything in between. "Steve" King sounds less like a horror writer and more like, I don't know, a left fielder who batted .396 for the 1871 Troy Haymakers. Oh wait...

As expected, Red Sox fans reacted to the tweet with glee. Yankees fans, not so much. But hey, who says there's no trash talking when you're talking about the most bitter rivalry in league history? And if anyone can be excused, it's King, who roasted his own Red Sox in the middle of their dismal start to the 2019 campaign... and in 2020.

Fortunately, 2021 is going a whole lot better so far.
