Luke Voit and Miguel Andujar are both not in Friday’s lineup for the Yankees in a big series opener against the Astros, and the outlook seems different for both of them.
Voit, who was hit on the hand in Thursday’s loss to the Mariners, is available off the bench, but manager Aaron Boone decided to give the first base slugger the night off.
“He’s actually good to go,” Boone said. “Just based on getting hit in the hand and in the knee earlier this week, the kind of stretch he’s been through, I felt like today was the day I wanted to have him down. But he’s good, he’ll be an active player for us. I’d use him in a big spot in the middle or later part of the game.”
Miguel Andujar has now missed three straight games with hand and wrist soreness, and an MRI revealed a sprain, and the Yanks will likely make a decision after Friday’s game whether he will require an IL stint, though Boone did say Andujar was feeling better and took swings both Thursday and Friday.
“We’ll see,” Boone said. “We’ll have to make a call on that after tonight, see where he is, see what his availability is, and we’ll have to make a call.”
As for Zack Britton, Boone expects the lefty reliever to be back with the team against the Red Sox next week for the Yanks’ first game back from the All-Star break. Britton left his last outing with hamstring cramping and was put on the 10-day IL.
“Britt’s gonna throw another live BP, I think tomorrow, and will probably throw a bullpen over the break, with the idea of being activated Thursday,” Boone said.
