The Yankees’ big pitching acquisition at the trade deadline hasn’t panned out, at least not yet, with Frankie Montas struggling since being dealt to New York.

The Bombers almost added another arm at the deadline, with reports of the Yanks and Marlins talking a trade for Pablo Lopez surfacing just before the deadline, but it didn’t pan out.

According to Jon Heyman, the Yanks found the asking price to be too high when it included Oswald Peraza, who would have been packaged with Gleyber Torres.

Per Heyman, Miami wanted both Peraza and Torres for Lopez and Miguel Rojas, but the Yanks didn’t want to part with Peraza, the 22-year-old middle infielder who was called up Thursday. Torres has struggled badly in the second half and hasn’t shown nearly the promise he had in 2019, so the Yanks seem to be more willing to trade him away. But they drew the line at Peraza.

As for talks with the Reds in regards to Luis Castillo, Cincinnati reportedly made it clear that New York wasn’t going to be able to match Seattle’s offer, though the Reds did initially want both Peraza and top prospect Anthony Volpe.
