The Yankees have reportedly made a trade with the Dodgers on Monday morning, as Los Angeles succeeds in clearing a spot on the 40-man roster for Shohei Ohtani.
According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, the Yanks are acquiring infield prospect Jorbit Vivas along with lefty reliever Victor Gonzalez for Trey Sweeney, the Bombers’ first-round pick in 2021.
According to MLB Pipeline, Vivas was the Dodgers’ No. 10 prospect, and Sweeney was the Yankees’ eighth-ranked prospect.
Vivas, 22, plays second and third base, and hit .269 with a .788 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A last season, finishing with 13 home runs. Gonzalez, 28, posted a 4.01 ERA in 33.2 innings of work last season, and holds a 3.22 career ERA over 89.1 innings for his career.
A high ground ball pitcher, the lefty Gonzalez likely means that Wandy Peralta will not be back in pinstripes in 2024.
