(WWJ) The storms that began Sunday morning across metro Detroit and kept rolling through most of the day left 100,000 without power.

DTE says at least 850 lines need to be restored after trees and power lines were knocked down.

Utility crews from across the country will arrive today to help restore power.

Some of the bigger areas around western Wayne County were hit hard, and there's no indication of when power will be restored to areas including Belleville, Wayne, Westland, and Ypsilanti.

Areas Up North where many people headed to visit the lake and get out of the heat was hit with powerful storms as well. Petoskey and Harbor Springs reported heavy rain and damaging winds.

“Once the winds picked up, it was kind of just watching the devastation happen right before your eyes,” Petoskey resident Matt Rothfuss told 9and10news.com.

It was notable even for people used to suffering through blizzards that dump feet of snow in one wallop. Rothfuss said his neighbor’s car was hit by a limb and their street was blocked by another downed tree limb.

“It’s something you never think would happen,” Rothfuss said. “We been through many storms before, this one just takes the cake.”
