DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Wayne County Prosecutor's office has filed assault charges against two Detroit Police sergeants in connection with an alleged assault last summer.

The prosecutor's office says an investigation showed Sgt. Raytheon Martin and Sgt. Lacell Rue beat up a man and tased him after an argument in the Greektown Casino parking garage last July. The incident was captured on video.

Around 3 a.m. on July 22, 2018, Martin, 40, and Rue, 35, had a verbal exchange with a 26-year-old Detroit man, according to prosecutors. They say during the exchange -- though the man did not make any aggressive physical gesture, according to prosecutors -- it is alleged that Martin struck the man in back of the head and proceeded to punch him multiple times while the man was on the ground. Rue then allegedly used a taser on the man twice.

Prosecutors claim the victim, whose name has not been released, was not aggressive and held his hands up during the alleged assault.

Martin and Rue were both arraigned Monday morning in 36th District Court. Both officers are facing charges of misconduct in office as well as assault and battery. Martin, meanwhile, is also facing a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said that because the case is still open, the prosecutor's office will not release any evidence, including the video of the incident, or comment on the allegations. Detroit police chief James Craig said he wants to talk with the Prosecutor about the case.

"The evidence in the case will come out on the record in court," Miller said in a press release.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for June 13 and a preliminary examination is scheduled for June 20, both before  Judge E. Lynise Weeks-Bryant.
