TROY (WWJ) - Police in Troy busted an underage drinking party and took an unconscious teen to the hospital for alcohol poisoning last weekend.
Officers were called to a home on Beach Road near Square Lake Road around 11:20 p.m. Saturday after a 16-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital, unconscious, for treatment of high blood alcohol content.
Officers were allowed inside the home, where they found numerous teenagers inside with several liquor containers scattered about one of the rooms.
Police say 23 teens ages 15 through 18 were cited for underage drinking.
"Those tickets were likely for a minor in possession," said WWJ Legal Analyst Charlie Langton. "Those under 21 who are caught with having a blood alcohol level of .02 or higher are treated more like a traffic ticket than a criminal offense. A first time offender will face a $100 fine plus the possibility of community service and substance abuse classes. Should any of those minors have a previous MIP, a second offense would be a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $200 fine."
The girl's condition is unknown.
An investigation is ongoing.
