(WWJ) While the economy overall seems to be humming along, some workers are forced to sing a different tune.

More than 250 people in southeast Michigan are out of work as a result of company cutbacks.

AMI Livonia notified the state this week that it is closing its business this month because customers took their work elsewhere.  As a result, 96 workers will lose their jobs.

In Lapeer, defense and aerospace contractor Lapeer Industries is laying off 160 workers after completing a project and not securing additional work.  A notice to the state says the layoffs will be finalized on Monday and could mean that one or more of the company's facilities could close.  No final decisions have been made at this time.
