CANTON (WWJ) - Police are investigating a suspected drunk driving crash in Canton that left a 4-year-old child hospitalized with injuries.
The crash happened just before 7 p.m. Thursday at Haggerty Road near Monument Boulevard, north of Michigan Avenue, when a Mazda driven by a 40-year-old Belleville woman made a U-turn in front of a Saturn, according to police.
The woman and her 4-year-old passenger were both taken by ambulance to University of Michigan Hospital. The woman was released while the child remains hospitalized in stable condition.
The driver of the Saturn, a 25-year-old Windsor, Ontario resident, received minor injuries in the crash but was not transported.
Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
