(WWJ) This alert came in from Allen Park, where officials are asking local media to spread the word ... All residents living in the area bordered by Southfield Road, Pinecrest Drive, Pelham Road, Ecorse Road, and Roosevelt are being asked to poor at least 1/2 gallon of water into each floor drain in their basement.
Why?
Gasoline has been detected in the sanitary sewer system in this area.
The water will fill the trap in the floor drain and prevent vapors from entering your home.
Gasoline vapors inside an enclosed space, of course, could easily catch fire and burn out of control.
