(WWJ) Police are searching for the shooter after a driver was hit by gunfire in Detroit, early Tuesday morning.
Michigan State Police say what was first to believed to be a shooting on the Lodge Freeway turned out to have happened on MLK Boulevard, near I-96.
State Police were notified about the shooting by Detroit police at around 3:45 a.m.. A 28-year old man from Southfield told MSP troopers he had exited from I-96 and was driving along MLK when he heard shots, and was hit in the elbow.
The suspects were believed to be in a dark-colored vehicle. Police are investigating but as of yet have no suspect, motive, make or model of the suspect vehicle.
The man is being treated at Henry Ford Hospital.
State Police are investigating more than a dozen shootings on Detroit-area roads, particularly the freeway, since mid-June. While police said many of the shootings were the result of road rage, none of them appear to be related.
