Body Of Missing Michigan Boater Found In Wisconsin

(WWJ) A Michigan man who disappeared about a month ago when a boat capsized on the Menominee River has been found dead. 

According to the Oconto County Sheriff's Office, a fisherman Wednesday morning found the body of 57-year-old Benjamin Tart of Iron River, Michigan, in the waters of Green Bay, near the city of Oconto, in northeastern Wisconsin.


A recovery was conducted by Oconto Fire Rescue and the sheriff s office, according to a news release. The body was then positively identified as Tart by the Brown County Medical Examiner's Office.

Tart was boating with another man on April 29, which the vessel overturned near Stephenson Island on the Wisconsin side of the river.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tart family as they deal with the loss of a loved one," said Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban.

Skarban said his office was assisted by the Menominee County Sheriff's Office, area police departments amd several local fisherman.

An investigation is ongoing.
