WYANDOTTE (WWJ) - Authorities have identified a body found in the Detroit River as that of a fisherman, missing for months.

According to Michigan State Police, 49-year-old Patrick Fitzgerald was found dead near Grassy Island in the Wyandotte area Sunday night.

Police said fisherman spotted the body, at around 8:30 p.m., and it was then pulled from the water by the U.S. Coast Guard.

This comes after Fitzgerald's abandoned vehicle was found on the MacArthur Bridge on November 20, 2018, police said. Investigators were not able to locate Fitzgerald at the time, but some of his property was discovered floating in the river.

It's unclear if foul play is suspected. An autopsy will be completed by the Wayne County Medical Examiner as the investigation continues.
