DETROIT (WWJ) - Be careful if you're hitting the roads in metro Detroit.
The National Weather Service has put out a Special Weather Statement for all of southeast Michigan, in effect through 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Cautious travel is advised while light to moderate snowfall is expected to cause brief, but rapid, reductions in visibility -- down to one mile or less.
A heavy snow shower blew through at around 10 a.m., WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean Devore said, and a second one was expected the hit the area before the morning is over.
He said drivers should anticipate blowing snow and rapid fluctuations in visibility.
"One thing you'll notice, it's kicked in the wind now," Devore added, "and it'll be breezy and feeling cold; highs only in the low 40s. Even with some sunny breaks, we'll see real-feels in the 20s and 30s, and then very cold tonight. It's going to drop into the 20s."
As for how much snow we'll get, accumulations of only up to a couple tenths of an inch are expected, mainly on elevated grassy surfaces.
There's some good news for the weekend, though:
"It's gonna be better tomorrow," Devore said. "Mid-to-upper 40s, sunshine, less wind, less harsh feeling and better still on Sunday...some sunshine, we'll get up to a high of 52 or so."
Early next week however, expect temps to drop into the 30s once again (sorry).
