SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- Metro Detroit is getting its first stand-alone Chick-fil-A location.

The Atlanta-based fast food chain known for its chicken confirmed to WWJ on Wednesday they are "pursuing expansion into Shelby Township."

While we are still early in the permitting phase, we look forward to working through approvals with the city and meeting with our future neighbors to understand how we can best serve the area," a Chick-fil-A spokesperson said via email.

"We are excited to join the community and hope to have the opportunity to serve everyone our signature food with genuine hospitality," the statement said.

While there are Chick-fil-A locations at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Oakland University and Summerset Mall, there are no stand-alone locations in Metro Detroit.

Chick-fil-A did not confirm to WWJ where the location would be in Shelby Township or when it may open, but reports say it would be at the intersection of Schoennherr and Hall Roads.

The city of Allen Park is also slated to receive a stand-alone Chick-fil-A location in either late 2019 or 2020.
