WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- There's no shortage of options at Brown Iron Brewhouse in Washington Township, where American smokehouse meets German beer hall.
The smells of smoked barbecue and burnt ends fill the air, and the never-ending wall of taps catches the eye. Specializing in American craft beer and fresh food, Brown Iron's open floor plan and long community-style tables give the buzzing brewhouse a warm sense of community.
Brown Iron, named "Michigan's Best Craft Beer Bar" by CraftBeer.com four years running, features 64 rotating taps, with dozens of beers from all across the U.S., as well as an ever-changing selection of their own brews.
Ranging from the Detroit Helles on Wheels and the Bib Light Lager to the Oatmeal Cookie Ale and Cinnamon French Toast, Brown Iron has a huge range of styles to go along side the slate of American crafts.
With 64 taps and upwards of 200 kegs in the cooler, bar manager Stephen Mott says it can be quite the process to sort things out.
"I want to provide it to our customers, I want them to have the opportunity to come in and have something on draft that maybe they couldn’t get anywhere else," Mott told WWJ's Zach Clark. "Maybe venture into the IPAs that maybe sent them into an older style, like an English bitter."
For co-owner Patti Eisenbraun and her husband Tim, Brown Iron was a project years in the making.
"Tim and I, we kind of made this plan when we were 35, we decided ‘let’s do something we love,’ and craft beer was it," Eisenbraun said.
The food menu offers all sorts of barbecue goodness, from smoked burnt end chili to a brisket melt sandwich.
Brown Iron has plans for expansion in the near future, as they're set to open a second location next month at the Woodward Corners in Royal Oak at Woodward Avenue and 13 Mile Road.
