(WWJ) A 20-year-old woman was declared dead yesterday morning and 24 hours later she was alive.
And and the Southfield Fire Department in suburban metro Detroit, Mich., is trying to figure out what happened.
It went beyond reports of her death being greatly exaggerated. Reports of her death were confirmed.
Authorities say they arrived at a home around 7:30 a.m. Sunday and found an unresponsive woman. After performing CPR and other life saving techniques, they pronounced her dead and had the 20-year-old transported to the James H. Cole Funeral home in Detroit.
Four hours later, employees walked into the room where her body was being held and noticed something odd. She was breathing.
Emergency crews arrived back at the funeral home and transported the woman -- who was definitely alive this time -- to the hospital.
Southfield Fire Department officials say there was no foul play in the incident, adding that "all proticals were followed."
Inside sources told Clickondetroit.com that before she was taken to the funeral home Southfield police allegedly saw her move and breathe and called the fire crews back, but fire crews claim those were "the side effects of the medication given to her."
The funeral home later released a statement confirming the incident.
"After receiving clearance from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office she was transported to our funeral home. Upon her arrival at the funeral home, our staff confirmed she was breathing and called EMS. Our thoughts and prayers are with this young woman and her family."
The city of Southfield said it is conducting an internal investigation.
