DEARBORN (WWJ) - A Dearborn Heights teen has been charged with murder in the death of an Inkster teen.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said 16-year-old Daylon Jamar Wooten has been adult designated. That means, if he is convicted, the judge will determine whether he will be sentenced as a juvenile, as an adult, or a combination of the two.

According to investigators, early in the morning of February 26, Wooten was in the 24700 block of Lehigh in Dearborn Heights with 17-year-old James Newman when the two "had a dispute."

Both young men were armed with handguns, prosecutors said, when it's alleged that Wooten fatally shot Newman.

Newman was taken to a local hospital by two men at the scene and was later pronounced dead. Police earlier said a 16-year-old Dearborn Heights boy, presumably Wooten, was also shot -- but the wound was not life-threatening.

Authorities have not said what the dispute was about, and no further details have been released as the case remains under investigation.

Wooten is charged with Second Degree Murder, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Felony Firearm. He was scheduled to appear for a hearing at the juvenile detention facility Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Sgt. S. Pawlus at 313-277-7707.
