"To avoid getting hit, he ran across the freeway," MSP said in a statement. After the Honda passed him, he got back in his patrol car and pulled the Honda over on the freeway just before Main Street.
While speaking with the driver of the Honda, a Kia sped toward him and struck the patrol car, according to authorities.
State Police arrested the Kia driver, a 29-year-old Auburn Hills man, for Impaired Driving Second Offense.
Authorities cited the Honda driver, a 22-year-old North Street woman, for careless driving. They determined she was not impaired, but was adjusting her contact lens while driving.
No one was injured.
"Definitely a lot going on here," First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said in the statement. “First, if you see an emergency vehicle with its lights on, move over and slow down... Finally, and I shouldn’t have to say this, there is never a need to drive impaired, ever.”
