DETROIT (WWJ) - Better bundle up -- metro Detroit is in store for a bitter-cold start to the week.
Forecasters say temperatures through Wednesday will be about 20 degrees below normal with sub-zero wind chills.
The cold starts to set in on Sunday, when we'll tumble from a high of 27 degrees to near single digits overnight. Temperatures will peak around 15 or 16 degrees on Monday and Tuesday, forecasters say, and around 19 degrees on Wednesday. We'll return to a high around 25 on Thursday and back up to 31 degrees on Friday.
Light snow began falling in parts of southeast Michigan around 3:30 Sunday, with the National Weather Service saying minor accumulation can be expected before the arctic temperatures set in Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service says below zero wind chills are expected late at night through early morning each day Monday through Wednesday. The coldest of the stretch is projected for Tuesday morning when wind chill from zero to 15 below is possible.
Along with the frigid cold, we could see some snow showers throughout the week -- but not enough to leave more than a coating.
