TROY, Mich. (WWJ) -- A pair of Detroit men are behind bars for allegedly hitting and killing a vending machine supplier with a vehicle in May.
Anthony Rene Griffin, 41, and Jerry Burton, 37, were arraigned over the weekend in the 52nd District Court in Troy and are both facing felony murder charges for the death of 48-year-old JV Binkley of Ann Arbor.
Police say around 9 a.m. on May 24, Binkley was making a delivery in Troy, in the parking lot of a location in the 500 block of Kirts Boulevard, when he was hit and killed. Officers believe the suspects were preparing to steal from Binkley's truck when he was hit and killed by the vehicle Griffin was driving. After the victim was struck, the suspects fled the scene.
Police say they had very few leads at first, but investigation, including extensive review of surveillance video and other evidence, led them to identify Griffin and Burton.
Both men were charged with felony murder, while Griffin was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death. Authorities say Burton was an accomplice in the crime.
Both men were denied bond.
