Detroit Police: Man Beaten Unconscious After Defending His Sister

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police have one person in custody but are looking to speak with a second about the case of a man who was severely beaten after defending his sister. 

According to investigators, a 24-year old man was beaten unconscious by a pair of men on Detroit's west side Friday night.


Police said the victim was walking with his sister in the the area of Plainview Ave and W. Warren Ave. when a burgundy Dodge pickup truck pulled up and one of the men inside asked if the victim's sister was a prostitute.

When the brother said "no" an argument ensued, according to police. Both occupants of the pickup got out and assaulted the man, police said, beating him in the head before fleeing in the vehicle.

The victim was left in critical condition. 

Police arrested one person Sunday afternoon, but say they still are looking for a second they're calling a "person of interest in the case." A photo of the man, described as a white male believed to be in hsi 30s, was released to the media along with a photo of the suspect vehicle and its license plate. Police did not release any names.
