EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - An 18-year-old man is facing charges after he crashed into a home in Eastpointe while apparently chasing after his ex-girlfriend, who was with another man.
The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. Wednesday when the man showed up at a home in the area of 9 Mile Road and Hayes Avenue, according to police, and found his ex-girlfriend in a vehicle with another man.
The man gave chase as the vehicles headed down Dale Avenue toward Stephens, when both drivers hit a curve in the road.
"One vehicle that was being chased went over the curb, through some landscaping and then out onto a side street," Eastpointe Police Lt David Ernatt told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "The male subject that we have in custody here at our station was unable to negotiate the turn also. He drove over the grass and drove up the walkway and went into the front of the house."
After crashing into the house, the man got out and ran but was eventually taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital for a cut lip he suffered in the crash, then taken to the police station. Charges are pending.
"It is possible that he was trying to intentionally ram the vehicle that he was chasing, so he may be facing possible charges of assault with a dangerous weapon -- meaning the motor vehicle," said Ernatt.
The homeowners were home at the time but were not injured. The woman and man in the other vehicle were also not injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
