ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - A former special needs teacher in Oakland County faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of sexually abusing her students.

According to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, 26-year-old Kathryn Houghtaling of Sterling Heights has been charged with six counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct third-degree in connection with allegations that she had a sexual relationship with two students.

The alleged encounters took place during after-school hours, according to investigators, at two different locations.

On Tuesday, Rochester Community Schools announced that, following an internal investigation, they'd fired a teacher over "inappropriate conduct" with students. The district's superintendent said school officials contacted law enforcement, and that parents and school staff had been notified of the situation.

The ages of the students involved have not been disclosed and it's not clear how Houghtaling's alleged actions came to light.

Prosecutors told WWJ Newsradio 950 that Houghtaling is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning, at which time more information about the case is expected to be released.
