DETROIT (WWJ) - A felony charge has been dismissed against a Detroit Police officer accused of assaulting a female hospital patient.
Police Corporal Dewayne Jones was charged with beating a mentally ill woman at Detroit Receiving Hospital in August.
In 36th District Court Tuesday, a judge dismissed a felony charge of misconduct in office. Jones still faces a misdemeanor assault and battery charge.
Prosecutors say the incident unfolded at about 7:10 a.m on Aug. 1, 2018, when Jones was on duty in full uniform. He arrived at Detroit Receiving Hospital, in the 4200 block of St. Antoine, and encountered the woman -- who was naked -- at the front desk. Video shows Jones repeatedly punching the woman after she spit at him and tried to bite him.

Jones claims he was trying to get the woman under control. Prosecutors say he responded with excessive force.
