TAYLOR (WWJ) - Authorities are trying to figure out what caused a Big Boy restaurant Downriver to catch fire.
The fire took off early Wednesday morning at the Big Boy restaurant along Telegraph Road just north of Goddard in Taylor.
An employee was arriving for work when they noticed smoke coming from the roof and called 911. Fire crews responded to the scene and by 6 a.m., the flames were extinguished.
"Upon arrival we found a bunch of smoke coming from the roof and the restaurant was fully charged with smoke," Fire Capt. Al Young told WWJ's Ron Dewey. "We made entry, did a quick knock down."
The fire appears to have started in the kitchen, though an exact cause has yet to be determined.
"It was in the kitchen area, there was no extension into the structure itself. It was all contained within the equipment and the kitchen area," Young said.
No injuries were reported.
An investigation is ongoing.
