HARRISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police say a fugitive has been captured following an hours-long manhunt after he ran from a traffic stop on I-94.
The incident unfolded around 9:15 a.m. Saturday when Michigan State Police troopers stopped a vehicle on eastbound I-94 at Metro Parkway for expired plates and no insurance. Police said the driver did not have an ID and gave his name verbally.
As the trooper was confirming the information, the driver got out of his vehicle and ran into a wooded area adjacent to a neighborhood. A Macomb County K-9 unit, along with several deputies and their helicopter, were involved in the search.
After about two hours, the suspect was found hiding in a heavily wooded area. Once surrounded, he was taken into custody with out incident.
The suspect was found to be a felony fugitive with multiple warrants. Police will be seeking charges for obstruction, expired plates, suspended license, false information to a police officer, and no insurance.
The suspect, who was not named, remains in custody at the Macomb County Jail.
