Galentine's Day: A Guide To February 13

What started as a funny episode on Amy Poehler's iconic "Parks and Recreation" series has taken on a life of its own. Looks like Galentine's Day is here to stay.

What is this holiday and how to celebrate it?

As Poehler's effusive character Leslie Knope conceived it, Galentine's Day is the 24-hour span before Valentine's Day where you appreciate your female friends, coworkers, platonic loves, best friends -- whatever. It's a day to honor the gals.

As Leslie explained it: “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”

She celebrated with her girlfriends at a restaurant with piles of waffles and syrup and a personalized present for everyone -- including pillows with their own faces on it. Why not? They're her friends and they're perfect.
