DETROIT (WWJ) - A 60-year-old man who allegedly fled the scene after fatally striking a motorcyclist has been charged in the case.
Malcolm Lewis Davis, of Detroit, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of failure to stop at the scene of an accident -- a five-year felony.
Officials say Davis was driving westbound on Puritan near the Southfield Freeway around 12:15 a.m. on April 9, when he disregarded a stop sign. The victim, who was heading northbound on Lindsay Street, struck Davis' vehicle. After the collision, Davis fled the scene.
The victim, 41-year-old Gerald Massey, was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Prosecutors say a police investigation led to Davis' arrest. He's due back in court for a probable cause conference on May 1, followed by a preliminary exam on May 7.
