(WWJ) Who says Generation Z only thinks about what's crossing their screen in any given moment? Not these kids: Dozens of high school students from metro Detroit are paying to work for the poor in Jamaica.

These students from Livingston Christian Schools in Brighton will be feeding people, working with severely disabled youngsters to offer comfort and assistance, helping in the construction of a community building -- and more. One hundred percent of anything raised goes to construction costs. They leave for a week starting January 30.

These kids say they're glad to pay their own way.

Organizers say the students will focus primarily on completion of a building that is regularly used in a variety of ways within the community of Flankers outside of Montego Bay. Their goal is to "curb the rise of poverty and gang violence while also aiding in education, and cottage industry."

Pastor Kris Maven with Thrive Leadership says, "This is a cause I have been involved with for over 20 years. It is the real deal making a real impact."

Their goal is to raise $10,000.
