CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A Macomb County man, convicted of nearly two dozen prior felonies, was arrested and charged in connection to a smash-and-grab at a Clinton Township jewelry store.

Clinton Township Police arrested Scotty Hester, 54, at his Fraser home on May 12th following a multi-jurisdictional investigation and digital forensic analysis.

Authorities told WWJ Hester committed the crime on April 9th, shortly before 3:30 a.m. He allegedly arrived at Bogazy Fine Jewelry on Gratiot, near 16 Mile, on an E-bike with "distinctive identifying features."

Surveillance video shows him punching out the front-door lock to the showroom with a tool. Police said he stole $78,000 in gold and diamond jewelry from the showcase, and he also walked off with an office desk.

Assistance from the Birmingham Police Department and Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) helped authorities identify Hester as a person of interest.

Clinton Township Police and MDOC Parole Officers conducted a "check" on Hester's home, where they encountered him on the tell-tale E-bike. They also discovered crack cocaine in his possession, according to authorities.

The investigation linked Hester to similar burglaries in Warren and Sterling Heights. At the time of his arrest, he was on parole for seven prior breaking and entering offenses. He has 23 prior felony convictions. The judge arraigned Hester on Thursday, May 14, at 41-B District Court in Clinton Township. His bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.
