(WWJ) There's a lot of construction work happening on I-75 and I-94, as orange barrel season really gets rolling in metro Detroit.
First on the list: Big changes today for drivers on I-75 in Oakland County, where a traffic shift is now in place.
NOW IN EFFECT (Wednesday afternoon):
- Northbound I-75 traffic has flipped over to the southbound lanes in Oakland County as part of the major rebuild of I-75 from 13 Mile to Coolidge. Two lanes will be open in each direction, with a temporary concrete barrier in place to separate traffic.
- I-75 northbound entrance ramps from 14 Mile, Rochester Rd., and Big Beaver Rd. are closed
- I-75 northbound exit to Big Beaver Rd. westbound is closed
- Big Beaver Rd. and Rochester Rd. ramps to I-75 southbound are closed
- I-75 southbound exit to 14 Mile Rd. eastbound is closed.
This configuration is expected to remain in place through mid-November, when the northbound side reconstruction is complete.
THIS WEEKEND: I-94 will be completely closed, both eastbound and westbound, between I-75 and Conner for demolition of the French Rd and Concord St. overpasses. Scheduled for 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. (Ramp closure details here)
LOOKING AHEAD: MDOT says work on I-94 this season will extend from Detroit's east side all the way to I-275; including total closures, lane reductions and other work that will hamper travel to downtown Detroit and to Detroit Metro Airport. "It's going to be a mess this year," MDOT's Diane Cross said, asking drivers to try to be patient. (More on this)
