WATERFORD (WWJ) - A man who allegedly confessed to stealing purses and an SUV from two elderly women is facing several criminal charges.
Marqus Fitzgerald Young was arraigned Wednesday in 51st District Court on charges of robbery, larceny and unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $1 million.
Investigators say Young admitted to robbing two elderly women in Waterford Township earlier this month. The first incident happened June 3 in the parking lot of the Waterford Senior Center on Pontiac Lake Road. Police say Young followed a 76-year-old woman into the parking lot and grabbed her purse out of her hands as she exited her vehicle. He fled the scene in an older model white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.
The second incident happened June 14 in the parking lot of Tenuta's Food Lane on Sashabaw Road. Police say Young followed an 81-year-old woman out of the store into the parking lot and grabbed her purse out of her hands before she could get into her SUV. When his vehicle became stuck on a curb as he tried to flee, police say Young went back to the victim's vehicle, got inside and fled south on Sashabaw Road.
Young was identified and arrested on June 16. During interviews, police say he confessed to both incidents.
Young remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail and is due back in court on July 2.
