(WWJ) Detroit police are investigating the shooting of a man and his two children on the city's west side last night.

The shooting happened at about 8 p.m. on Plainview near Evergreen and 7 Mile when police said a man on foot approached the group and opened fire. No motive is known.

The three victims were shot while they were outside lighting fireworks -- and were taken to a local hospital.

The 37-year-old man and his 10-year-old daughter are listed in critical condition.  The girl was reportedly hit four times.

The 9-year-old son is listed in stable condition.

"The issue is that we have two children shot, 9 and 10 years old, and we need the public's help for tips leading to whomever shot these kids, along with their dad," Detroit Police Detective Detrick Mott told The Detroit News

Mott added authorities were concerned over the girl's grave condition. "We are praying for her," he said.

The suspect is described as a black male, thin build, wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5200.
