EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WWJ) -- A man has been charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old in Eastpointe over the weekend.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's office filed second degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges against 21-year old Jeremy Schodowski in connection with the shooting that happened early Sunday, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.
Police said on Sunday the victim was shot in the head around 1 a.m. Sunday when Schodowski allegedly broke into a home in the 23000 block of Normandy Avenue near 9 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died Monday.
It is unclear what led to the shooting, but authorities said Sunday that three men, including the victim, were in the basement when the suspect allegedly entered the home through a side door, ran downstairs and shot the man in the head before fleeing the home in an unknown direction.
Schodowski is also facing two felony firearms charges and one count of possession of cocaine. He was arraigned in 38th District Court and is being held on $2 million bond.
Eastpointe police are still investigating and are asking anyone who may have information to give them a call at (586) 445-5100.
