Man Disappears After Asking Stranger To Hold Newborn At Detroit Hospital

(WWJ) The Detroit Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating an unknown man who abandoned a baby at Sinai-Grace hospital.

Police said it happened on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 9:27 a.m. That's when the still-unidentified man pulled up to Sinai-Grace Hospital in the 6000 block of W. Outer Drive, exited his vehicle and asked another person who was entering the hospital to hold the baby until he parked his vehicle.

The person took the baby, and the man left. He never came back.

The baby is a girl who was just a few hours old when she was abandoned.

The man who left the child is described as a black male, late 40’s – early 50’s, 5’10” – 6’2”, medium brown complexion. He was last seen wearing an unknown light colored hat, light colored short sleeve shirt and light colored pants with the left leg of the pants pulled up. He was driving a silver older model Dodge Durango with a gold colored rear hatch.

No photo of the man is available, police said, adding the Detroit Police Department is concerned for the welfare of the mother.
