EMMETT TWP. (WWJ) - Officials in St. Clair County say a 28-year-old man was thrown from a vehicle and killed, and two others were injured, in a fiery crash that was fueled by alcohol.
The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Dunnigan and Bryce roads in Emmett Township.
According to police, a 2009 Cadillac CTS was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Dunnigan when the driver lost control and the car struck an end guardrail at the corner of Bryce Road. The car continued through the ditch and struck several trees before stopping.
When officers arrived on the scene, the car was fully engulfed in flames.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene. Two passengers, a 28-year-old man from Emmett and a 27-year-old Capac, were able to escape and were transported to the hospital. Their current conditions are unknown.
Police say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
