DETROIT (WWJ) - A man's body has been recovered from the Detroit River after he fell into the water overnight.
Police say the 33-year-old man went into the water at Erma Henderson Marina around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The man's friends tell WWJ's Mike Campbell the group had returned from a concert at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre when 33-year-old Andre Thomas fell into the water between the dock and the shore.
"We were packing up everything in the car and we just started kicking it with the boaters, you know, talking to the boaters," said Tammy Red. "It was an accident. It was a real tragic accident."
Several boaters tried to get him out of the water, to no avail. The Detroit Police Underwater Recovery Team searched through the night and about five hours later recovered Thomas' body.
