MARYSVILLE, Mich. (WWJ) -- Police are investigating in Marysville after a fifth-grader made a comment alluding to shooting up Washington Elementary School.
Parents in the school district received a letter from district superintendent Dr. Shawn Wightman on Wednesday explaining what happened.
The student made a comment Tuesday night during a choir concert and staff members were notified of the comments. The student was removed from school and has been told not to return to the school or be in the vicinity of school campuses until further notice.
"I'm very disappointed about the situation but we have to do what we have to do," Marysville superintendent Shawn Wightman said, according to a story from the Times-Herald.
"Communication, education and training are all a part of this process," Wightman's letter said. "Consequently, I encourage you to share your concerns and ideas with us so that we can continue to make certain that our schools are the safest places for our children."
Wightman said he encourages all parents, students and staff to come forward if they ever hear or see anything suspicious.
