DETROIT (AP/WWJ) - First-term Michigan State Rep. Isaac Robinson has died, and his mother suspects her son's death could be related to the coronavirus.
He was 44.
Former Rep. Rose Mary C. Robinson said her son died hours after being transported to the hospital for breathing problems and the family suspected he suffered from COVID-19, but he had not been tested for the virus that causes the disease.
A cause of death was not immediately released.
Mayor Mike Duggan called his passing a devastating loss. "Representative Isaac Robinson fought passionately for the issues he believed in and for those in our community who needed a strong advocate like him," he said in a press release. "My heart goes out to his mother, former State Rep. Rose Mary Robinson, his father, Roger, and all of his many loved ones. His passing is a devastating loss to our community and another reminder of how we all need to do our part to protect ourselves and each other in these difficult times."
Isaac Robinson was a lawyer who was elected in 2018 to represent the 4th District, succeeding his mother in office. The Democrat from Detroit never married and had no children.
Colleagues mourned his passing, with House Democratic Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills), saying, “It is with extreme sadness that I share the passing of Rep. Isaac Robinson who was a passionate advocate for his community and constituents. Our entire Democratic Caucus is devastated by the loss of our colleague and send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
