(WWJ) A Macomb County student and his parents are all facing weapons charges in connection with guns in a car on school property.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said it was notified on Oct. 11 of this year about a student who reportedly had brought guns to Merritt Academy, a K-12 charter school on Haven Ridge Rd. in New Haven.
During their investigation, the sheriff's office learned that classmates allegedly told then Dean of Students Kendra Kneer — who is also the student's mother — about concerning statements the student had made.
The School Resource Officer was not told about the situation, officials said, and it's alleged that Kneer kept the student in her office while she went out and searched the car guns.
The sheriff's office said the student's father, William Kneer III, then asked a family friend take the guns out of the car while it was still parked at the school.
The mom, dad and son were all arraigned this week on misdemeanor charges
William Kneer III is charged with Firearms – Safe Storage Violations, a 93-day misdemeanor.
Kendra Kneer is charged with Weapon-Free Schools – Possessing Weapon, a 93-Day Misdemeanor, and one count of Firearms – Safe Storage Violations, a 93-day misdemeanor.
The student is charged in juvenile court with one count of Weapon-Free Schools – Possessing Weapon, a 93-Day Misdemeanor. His are was not disclosed.
Bond was set at $500 for both William and Kendra Kneer.
The MCSO did not say who owns the guns, or where the student got them.
